Year 12 Vets Visit
Year 12 Design Engineer Construct students have the task of designing a new vets practice for Ashburton this year.
As part of the support programme, the DEC team organised a visit to one of the most successful vet practices in the area, South Moor Vets in Ivybridge. Opened in 2018, the mixed practice caters for farm and small animals and is expanding from four consultancy rooms to six, whilst currently offering a wide range of clinical services including CT scans and x-rays, making it a one stop shop for most animal needs.
The students were treated to a tour of South Moor Vets by Sarah the Assistant Manager, taking in all the rooms included in the vet side, admin and sleeping quarters for the 24/7 nursing team which deals with out of hour emergencies.
They then had a Q & A session with one of the directors, Simon, who had been intrinsically involved in the design and construction stages of the build. He was able to give the students a lot of great insight into costs, additional features required for commercial properties, practicalities and sources of inspirations connected to the build.
All in all the students had over an hour on site learning lots of really useful information to impact their own designs. Thank you to Sarah, Simon and the whole team at South Moor Vets who went above and beyond to give our students an excellent educational experience!
