Ten Tors 2024
These students have come a long way since our training started in October...literally! Six teams entered the Ten Tors Challenge 2024, and we could not be more proud of what they accomplished if we tried.
What a year it has been! The Ten Tors participants took to the Moor at the beginning of May in the glorious sunshine; this is what they had been waiting for.
Training for Ten Tors began back in October 2023 and the participants have endured long, cold, wet walks with blisters and soggy bottoms even Mary Berry would be appalled at, but they prevailed! With every training weekend, the teams got closer, stronger and better at avoiding geographical misplacement. The training team have been incredibly proud and honoured to work with such a fantastic group of students.
At South Dartmoor, we often talk about how to show our school values, and each and every one of them proved themselves to be a shining light of our school.
At the event, the scene was set with a small village of tents ready to welcome the keen students; sunshine was enjoyed, jobs were done and burgers, pasta and cake were eaten! After a long day, it was time for an early night – ready for their special alarm call in the morning over the loudspeaker.
Before long, it was time to set off at the sound of the cannon and for Miss Upton and the amazing
volunteer team to begin refreshing their phone screens obsessively until they saw the students again.
This year we had participants for 35, 45 and 55 miles. To say some tears were present at the finish line would be an understatement! The adults, the parents, the participants, the crowd were all bursting with pride for what these incredible young people achieved.
Miss Upton and the volunteers welcomed all the participants and adults back together in mid-June for the highly anticipated awards at the Celebration evening.
Huge congratulations and thank you to everyone who made this year possible! Time to set the dates for next year now…
