South Dartmoor Opera Company Performance
The Marriage of Figaro is one of the jewels in the crown of the opera genre. The South Dartmoor performers (Rhys, May, Aaron, Loren, Ehama, Megan, Addi, Isla, Finn, Franky) have worked really hard over the course of the academic year to master new singing techniques, complex lyrics and ensembles, period characters, as well as some of the most recognisable operatic solos in the repertoire. We meet weekly as a club - it is incredibly unusual to find opera in any school let alone a state academy. It is to these students’ immense credit that they performed such difficult music with skill, control and expression on the night. We are so proud of them.
It was also exciting to work alongside our friends from Torbay Symphony Orchestra, Torquay Girls and Boys Grammar Schools, and Ashburton’s InCon Singers in the production of the show. Also, with some talented college dancers in Martha and Eloise. Thank you also to our front of house team of Lucie, Bee, Camila, Doro, Ava and Remas, alongside FOSDA.
We are very grateful to The Helen Foundation Ella Philp Fund for sponsoring the opera. Further information about their amazing work can be found on our website and social media platforms.
