Scholarship Awards
Former students Nat Salt and Mark Thomas have been awarded scholarships to attend the London Institute of Banking and Finance to study degree courses, following their outstanding achievements last year.
Studying for a professional qualification, as opposed to a traditional A Level, the students were given the opportunity to sit the formal external examinations or rely solely on internal assessment. Both opted to sit the external examinations and did phenomenally well. Nat achieved an A* whilst Mark gained an A, whilst also entering into the Young Financial Journalist of the Year Competition run jointly by the LIBF and the Financial Times.
Nat and Mark were part of our successful trial of finance courses in the Sixth Form last year. It is an avenue we have plans to develop in the future, with our first full cohort studying the Diploma of Financial Studies this year and further career talks with local and national businesses in the finance sector already arranged.
Congratulations also go to George Senior, who secured a place on the highly competitive Bishop Fleming School Leavers Programme and is beginning his training to become an accountant. Also to Gus Kendall Lloyd who has completed the institute's summer school in London.
Barry Rodgers, Head of Business and Economics, said: "They are a great testament to all our finance students as to what can be achieved with a little hard work. There will be an awards ceremony in London which Nat, Mark and I will be invited to attend. The scholarships will be held open for two years if their current plans were to change."
